THE BEGINNING

In 1995, some practitioners came together in Lagos with the vision of having a professional body that would breed a new generation of facility managers, this led to the birth of IFMA Nigeria Chapter. Since inception, the desire of the Association to provide Nigeria with the opportunity of developing a vibrant maintenance culture which will help shape the future of the country.

Subscribing to Mobil’s cliché that it ‘’takes courageous leadership to admit that we must improve our quality’’ these multi-disciplined professionals in Mobil, Chevron and others propose setting up our quality improvement goals aimed at bringing the international standards of facility management to bear on maintenance of infrastructure in Nigeria.

IFMA NIGERIA TODAY

IFMA Nigeria was registered and incorporated as a not-for-profit organisation in 1997 and is an affiliate of IFMA Worldwide..... Facility Management Principles for their built environment. IFMA membership is open to anyone actively engaged in the application, practice, teaching and researching of facility management, its principles and techniques. Membership is equally open to other corporate organizations that value their facilities highly and employs facility Management principles for their upkeep. IFMA Nigeria has pulled together a good number of facility management professionals who today have through their individual and corporate membership ensured a relationship that is gradually shaping the future of IFMA’s high quality activities through training, lectures, facility tours, interactive seminars, education and research. We recently introduced the Facility Management Training Series, a continuous professional development and solid foundation training to develop careers in the right direction. It is aimed to equip relevant officers with current skills, knowledge and techniques to increase effective practice of facility management in private and public sector.

WHO WE ARE

IFMA’s core purpose is to strengthen and advance the knowledgebase essential to leading the integration and optimization of the built environment worldwide. To realize its vision and mission, IFMA Nigeria has established the following goals: Lead progress of the profession by forecasting and directing the course of facility management trends, needs and outcomes. Sustain progress of the profession by supporting the success of practitioners through the best workplace-related education, information and interaction. Represent the profession by advancing IFMA stakeholders through the process of awareness, recognition, interest and desire leading to utilization of FM.

WHAT WE DO

The Association is dedicated to promoting excellence in the management of the work environment. IFMA Nigeria offers the opportunity to develop contacts and exchange information with other facility management professionals locally and internationally through conferences, seminars, chapter and council programs. We also hold professional development seminars and trainings leading to the award of the world’s most recognized FM Certifications -Facility Management Professional (FMP); Certified Facility Manager (CFM) and lately, the Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP) designations. The chapter has produced over 300 FMPs and 30 CFMs to date.
